“Jashn-e-Rekhta is a three-day festival celebrated annually in Delhi under the aegis of the Rekhta Foundation, a not-for-profit organization devoted wholeheartedly to the preservation and promotion of the Urdu language, its literature and culture.
Within the last four years, Jashn-e-Rekhta has left behind the trappings of a festival to emerge as an excellent celebration of Urdu, its rich heritage and eclectic art forms. The event includes splendid musical performances of ghazals and qawwalis by renowned artistes. Additional activities include dastangoi renditions, panel discussions, poetry recitations and enriching conversations with celebrities. Items decorated with calligraphy and other goods are also available and visitors can enjoy a variety of local as well as Middle Eastern cuisine at the food stalls.
The festival has been graced by doyens of Urdu poetry and literature and also by people of eminence from the film, music and television industry. Owing to its uniqueness, Jashn-e-Rekhta has become one of the most popular literary and cultural events of our country.”

Severance is a process that allows employees to separate their work-related memories from their personal memories. This is achieved through a cognitive process that selectively 'splits' memories, so that memories created during work hours are not accessible outside of work, and vice versa. The process is voluntary and reversible.

Conventional Japanese burial practices are to be buried alongside kin in an ancestral plot, often located in the countryside attached to a Buddhist temple., which are traditionally passed down in the family for generations. Because of high aging/low birthrate demographics with more Japanese living alone, fewer having families or offspring to tend to them, the traditional method of burial is getting dismantled.

An Ending Center is an alternative burial society with grounds anyone can enter — without a successor or family, which is usually mandated to enter both public and private cemeteries. Rather than the “blood” ties conventionally required (to maintain the grave, provide upkeep and pay annual maintenance fees), here one becomes a “member” by paying a one-time fee. With this, one will be buried in the association’s burial grounds. But an added benefit is being able to attend get-togethers ahead of time with what are called “grave-friends”: ties made with those one will share burial with down the road.

Another Japanese way of burial is a civic burial mound where everyone is to be buried, free of charge, with ashes collectively commingled, in a space like a public park.

Even as most Japanese identify as a-religious, burial practices are overtly Buddhist — the “religion of death” as Buddhism is called in Japan.

Women in Western liberal democracies have recently started to undergo bereavement of their miscarriages through mourning rituals, to acknowledge the grief of the unexpected ending of a life that was cut too short, as a semi-public, social demonstration of grief that has historically and medically been invisibilized. This typically happens within religious spaces using religious liturgy. For example, the Buddhist way of mourning miscarriages involves a red baby bib, a Buddha statue that stands as a metonymic figure for the unborn fetus, taking place in a bathtub to mimic the maternal waters of the uterus. Anglican Cathedrals too have started conducting mourning rituals for miscarriages, in ceremonies that involve ringing bells, lighting incense and candles, and naming the miscarried fetus out of the list of potential names that the mother had chosen for her babe-to-be-born. For Durkheim, a ritual is a symbolic practice marked off both temporally and spatially from everyday life, involving several rites.

Eros seemed to Sappho at once an experience of pleasure and pain. Here is contradiction and perhaps paradox. To perceive this eros can split the mind in two. This is why Sappho characterizes eros as “bittersweet”.

1. Antarctica shall be used for peaceful purposes only
2. Freedom of scientific investigation in Antarctica and cooperation toward that end… shall continue

In the 1910s, the world saw the beginning of possibilities between the worker movements across the world and nationalist anti-colonial liberation movements in colonized nations. However, for Lenin, national anti-colonial movements can only exist as bourgeois movements, for the bulk of these nationalist movements are led by the landowning powerful classes. Thus, even though the bourgeois classes in colonised countries are supporting and leading anti-colonial movements, they simultaneously work in harmony with the imperialist (colonising) bourgeoisie, i.e., it joins the latter in fighting against all revolutionary movements by worker classes (Lenin, “Preliminary Theses on the National-Colonial Question)”). How then were the workers and communists supposed to imagine their future? For them, supporting national movements meant ushering the nation towards capitalistic development.

In their critique of British of rule, the founding fathers of the Indian National Congress had made the Indian people’s poverty a central issue. Dadabhai Naoroji, from 1876 wrote papers, memoranda and pamphlets, statistically presenting the state of misery and tracing its causes to the tribute rendered to Britain, to the de-industrialization generated by Free Trade, and to the over-taxation and currency manipulations by the British regime. The British rule was then responsible for the economic depravation of India, hurting the common workers the most.

Gandhi advocated for an inter-class and inter-caste solidarity between the the dominant zamindars, thakurs (land-owning castes), and factory-owners and workers, to fight together against overthrowing the British: "owners and workers ought to be in a relationship of father to son."

The 1920s in India witnessed general mass strikes by workers across the country over several dominant industries such as cotton mills over issues such as wage issues and working conditions. Some of these were successful, some were not.
